Electrical Safety

  • Unplug electrical appliances when not in use and before you go to bed
  • To avoid overheating always check to ensure that the appliance you are using has the correct size fuse fitted;
    • Appliances up to 720W require a 3A fuse
    • Appliances up to 1200W require a 5A fuse
    • Appliances up to 3000W require a 13A fuse
  • When you purchase an electrical appliance ensure it has a British or European safety mark
  • High powered appliances like kettles and washing machines should have a single plug. Remember: One Plug One Socket
  • If you are using an extension lead ensure that you don't overload it. The maximum loading should be 13amps
  • Check for faults or damage to any electrical leads or cables and replace as necessary
