Hot fat fires
Over the past five years over 50 per cent of accidental dwelling fires were cooking related.
- Don’t cook after drinking alcohol or when you are tired
- If you have to leave the kitchen take pans off the heat
- Keep the cooker clean - a build up of fat or grease can ignite a fire
- Be extra careful with hot fat cooking; consider using a thermostat controlled deep fat fryer
- Take extra care when you have been drinking and be careful if you fancy chips in the middle of the night - a third of all deep frying injuries occur between 10pm and 4am!
- Keep tea towels, cloths and oven gloves away from the cooker and hob
Don't leave cooking unattended
